Newtown Friends is a private school serving Pre-K through eighth grade students with best-practice classroom experiences, as well as diverse fine arts, athletics, field trips, and service opportunities. Our Core Values

spring from our Quaker roots, and are often summarized by the acronym SPICES: simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. Quakerism’s official name is the Religious Society of Friends, a reminder of the importance of positive relationships within our community. Each student is given the freedom to find his or her own voice through quiet reflection and inquiry.
Our History

dates back to1948 when Newtown Friends School was founded by Newtown Friends Meeting. Still under its care, NFS is an independent institution guided by the core values of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). The Friends’ belief that “there is that of God in everyone” guides key aspects of a Newtown Friends education, both followed and taught: the creative and nonviolent resolution of conflict, the use of silence as a means to listen for an inner truth, and the fostering of respect, concern, and responsibility for the well-being of self and others.
Our Welcoming Spirit

extends to all. Newtown Friends School happily embraces families of all beliefs. While fewer than 20 percent of the student body and faculty are members of the Religious Society of Friends, the entire school community benefits from a culture of respect, inclusion, responsibility, and understanding that prevails at NFS.
