Athletics

Interscholastic sports at Newtown Friends are open to students in fourth through eighth grade. All students are welcome in all sports (there are no cuts), and JV and varsity squads ensure that all children get playing time. A majority of students in fourth through eighth grades participate, fostering considerable school spirit, which gets even more spirited for big games and tournaments, such as Quaker Classic (soccer), March Madness (basketball), and several contests pitting varsity players against the faculty. 

A true interscholastic program, NFS teams play regional, private schools.  Each year, games and meets are typically played against Buckingham Friends School, The Pen Ryn School, Abrams Hebrew Academy, The Hun School, The Pennington School, Abington Friends School and many others.

The NFS ski club, open to all middle school students, is a wonderful way for students to learn how to ski or improve their ski skills, get to know one another, and have a great time together. The trips, typically two per year and chaperoned by faculty, have become very popular, with nearly 80 students taking part each year. Due to limited space, participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. 

No previous experience is necessary. In fact, these trips provide great opportunities to learn how to ski or snowboard, and beginners are asked to sign up for group lessons—a terrific investment.  Equipment may be rented at the resorts, or students may bring their own.
